0 +/- 10.6 years). The diagnosis of MS was based on the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III criteria. A 12-lead electrocardiogram was recorded for each subject. The difference between maximum and minimum P-wave duration was calculated and defined as PWD. An echocardiographic examination was also performed for each subject.

Results: Maximum P-wave duration and PWD were found to be significantly higher in patients with MS compared with the control subjects (Maximum P-wave duration: 113.5 +/- 9.7 ms vs 101.0 +/- 8.1 ms, PWD: 37.8 +/- 7.6 vs 23.3 +/- 5.9, respectively, P < 0.001 for both).

However, there was no statistically significant difference between two groups regarding minimum P-wave duration (75.6 +/- 6.9 ms vs 77.6 +/- 7.8 ms, respectively, P = 0.18). In addition, Ion Channel Ligand Library screening PWD was positively correlated with age, body mass index, waist circumference, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, triglyceride level, deceleration time, isovolumetric relaxation time and negatively correlated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level and early-to-late

diastolic velocity ratio.

Conclusion: We have shown that patients with MS have higher PWD, indicating increased risk for AF, compared to the control subjects without MS.

“Respiratory rate monitoring of cardiac patients is recommended by many cardiologists. However, little objective data exist about respiratory rates in find more apparently healthy dogs when collected in the home environment. We measured sleeping respiratory rates (SRR) in apparently healthy dogs and compared sleeping and resting respiratory buy CX-6258 rates (RRR) with a cross-sectional prospective study. Participants collected

12-14 one-minute SRR over a period ranging from 1 week to 2 months on 114 privately owned adult dogs. Selected participants simultaneously collected RRR. Mean within-dog average SRR (SRRmean) was 13 breaths per minute (breaths/min). No dog had SRRmean >23 breaths/min; three dogs had instantaneous SRR measurements >30 breaths/min. Dogs had higher RRRmean (19 breaths/min) than SRRmean (15 breaths/min) (P < 0.05). Canine SRRmean was unaffected by age, bodyweight or geographic location. Data acquisition was considered relatively simple by most participants. This study shows that apparently healthy adult dogs generally have SRRmean <30 breaths/min and rarely exceed this rate at any time. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.”
“Study Design. Systematic review of clinical guidelines.

Objective. To assess the methodological quality of clinical guidelines for the management of acute and chronic low back pain (LBP) in primary care and compare their recommendations.

Summary of Background Data. A guideline evaluation performed in 2004 concluded that the quality and transparency of the development process and consistency in the reporting of primary care guidelines for LBP need to be improved.
