A TGF-β receptor inhibitor abrogated this effect, whereas combined TGF-β1/TNF-α treatment enhanced the phenotype. TGF-β1 treatment, alone and combined with TNF-α, also resulted in intracellular relocalization of E-cadherin from cell membranes and increased expression of α-SMA (Fig. 2C,D).
