For comparative purposes, a set of 5045 siblings served as a reference. A study into the interplay between social developmental elements (e.g., peer relationships, parental connections, and romantic entanglements) and perceptions of social acceptance within the context of emerging adult cancer survivors from childhood. Within-subjects and cross-sectional methods were utilized in this study. Questionnaires encompassed the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire, the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment, the Adolescent Social Self-Efficacy Scale, the Personal Evaluation Inventory, the Self-Perception Profile for Adolescents, and demographic data collection. Associations between general demographics, cancer-specific factors, and psychosocial outcomes were established through correlation analysis. Three mediation models were used to evaluate peer and romantic relationship self-efficacy as possible mediators of social acceptance. The study analyzed the interconnectedness of perceived physical beauty, peer attachments, parental attachments, and social acceptance. Data acquisition focused on N=52 adult cancer survivors who were diagnosed with cancer as children (average age 21.38 years, standard deviation 3.11 years). A robust direct association between perceived physical attraction and perceived social acceptance was demonstrated in the initial mediation model, this connection continuing to hold statistical significance after accounting for the indirect pathways through the mediators. Despite the second model initially demonstrating a noteworthy direct effect of peer attachment on perceived social acceptance, this significance was lost after accounting for peer self-efficacy, indicating that peer relationship self-efficacy partially mediates this connection. The literature was examined systematically, using PubMed and EMBASE databases, to identify pertinent publications until the end of September 2022. Articles on COVID-19 were part of the selection if at least one author held an affiliation with the IMSS; irrespective of type—original articles, review articles, or clinical case reports—all were included. The analysis utilized a descriptive methodology.
The collection of 588 abstracts yielded 533 full-length articles, each qualifying under the same rigorous selection criteria. The majority (48%) of the publications were research articles, with review articles comprising a substantial subsequent portion. Attention was largely directed toward clinical and epidemiological issues. 232 journals published these works, featuring an overwhelming prevalence (918%) of foreign periodicals.
